Jelutong
The famous Jelutong burger nearby the post office with a freaking long waiting time of approximately half an hour. This is the Papa Special, comes with two chicken patties, cheese and egg.
Looks bigger in real-life.
New World Park
And probably my favourite food haunt at Penang, the food court at New World Park. Some of my stomach's haul - yam with sprinkled fried onions and chili suace.
Watery steamed otak-otak variant that can only be found at Penang. The one I'm used to is the barbequed version, more solidified and elongated presentation. This is nice in a completely different way but can't consume in large quantities or get bored of the taste rather quickly.
Pai Tee or also known as Top Hat, which if I'm not wrong is a traditional Nyonya dish.
Best oochien ever! Very crispy :) but not cheap.
Ice kacang with a dollop of ice cream to cool off before leaving New World Park.
Kapitan
Quite a good mamak, my first in Penang but very slow service. Maggie goreng.
Cheese naan with tandoori chicken. The naan is very thin, quite unlike the thick ones I'm used to, but a pleasant change.
Tandoori chicken again with nasi briyani. First time trying nasi briyani *insert background gasping noise* and it's quite fragrant, but rather dry if not for the curry.
Winter Warmers (Queensbay Mall)
I'll say not worth the money to come here for the food since it's rather exorbitant for the quality. However, the tea seems quite worthwhile from what my observation of most tables.
My pan-fried dory. Not bad, but nothing spectacular and I think I can get a yummier version of this with the same price elsewhere.
Someone else ordered this but I took a picture to serve as a warning to prevent anyone from ever ordering this. Pricey garlic bread with too much garlic on top that you'll probably scare away all vampires a mile away.
Qbean
Soya ice cream, I liked this so much that I went back another time for this. My initial urge to get this was propelled by the soya ice cream I tasted once in Singapore. The Qbean version pales in comparison but still quite good nonetheless.
From My Bag
Completely unrelated to the blog post's context, I shall now introduce you to Bean Boozler by Jelly Belly, a packet of jellybeans I bought from Singapore. It comes in ten colours, each with two flavours of its own, one being good and another being downright nasty. They have nasty flavours like dog food, centipede, barf etc (which I'm not kidding you when I'm saying that it's too horrible to even swallow it).
If my memory serves me well, this is booger and mouldy cheese.
Random Roadside Popiah Stall at Seberang Perai
Tasted normal, nothing much to say.
Ananda Bawal
It's a high-end mamak shop with nice ambience, and the sea is just right across the road. I like how our drinks were served, although the cups looked a bit like toilet urns.
First time I'd ever tried roti bom and it's really good, can't believe I didn't try it sooner. Rich condensed milk enclosed inside :)
Cheese naan and tandoori chicken again, wondering when will I be bored of it?
The mighty towering Roti Tisu in pink syrup! I'll say the best roti tisu I'd ever tasted to date.
Some free papadam on the house. (with some parts of it being uncooked)
Charlie Brown Cafe (Straits Quay)
This is one of the most expensive drinks I'd ever ordered - Franklin Frappe. Cost Rm16.50 overall which I can go to Starbucks already and order a Venti size frappe already. To be fair, the frappe at Charlie Brown was quite good, just that the price tag is too hefty. However, the Snoopy-themed decorations of the cafe made the price more bearable.
James Foo
My favourite western food place since the food is good and the price is cheap! A giant glass of watermelon juice and best of all, it's not diluted.
Another reason to love this place, it's non-halal, making it one of the few rare places in Malaysia to get pork chop. I ordered the Hawaiian Pork Chop with cheese and ham :)
A Mamak Store Nearby James Foo Which I Forgot The Name
Another variant of roti tisu, this time with condensed milk. It'll be better if the base of the roti tisu is crispy as well.
And, another varient of Roti Bom. This one came with condensed milk and egg inside.
Crepe Cottage (Gurney promenade)
Prepare to be patient if you ever come here! Long waiting time but it's really worth it. I ordered the Mango Cup without fail everytime I come here. The mango ice cream is homemade, so you can't get this anywhere else. The interior of the crepe cup is lined with honey, which goes really well with the cream.
Roadside Stall nearby Island Glades
Peanut soup! I used to consume this a lot when I was young and loved it to bits. However, this version seems to be too watery for my liking but the peanuts were good.
Lorong Selamat
I know this is clearly a tourist trap since a normal plate of char kuey teow with egg cost RM 7.50. Albeit that, I'm willing to scoop out the money cause I find this the best char kuey teow ever! The prawns were huge and juicy, the flat noodles very flavourful and not oily and the whole plate was just perfect in my bias point of view!
I miss this the most from Penang :(
T.G.I Fridays (Queensbay)
I know it's odd to eat this at Penang but food is still food. Boneless buffalo wings! I know why the Americans are so crazy over this already, cause I can just munch on this for the entire day.
Friday's Shrimps. Crispy juicy shrimps on a bed of fries :)
Food Court At Unknown Location (short-term memory loss)
Very cheap and good seafood cooked in Bali style (as they proclaimed) with the total bill coming up to RM 32.80 only and two stuffed beyond brim customers. Clams, spicy with a sweet tinge to it.
Stingray marinated in whatever sauce it is. I literally have to force myself to finish this cause the fish was just too huge for two person to consume.
Sotong! My favourite among all the dishes and the spiciest as well too.
And with the last seafood meal, it commences the end of my food trip at Penang. I shall end this blog post with a cute picture I found of someone's drawing :)
Disclaimer: The best food still comes from Melaka! :)
